Wilyer Abreu not in lineup Saturday
Brewers outfielder placed on restricted list after visa issue in Toronto
Abreu was set to make his season debut Saturday against the Blue Jays
Brewers outfielder Wilyer Abreu was placed on the restricted list Saturday after a visa issue prevented him from joining the team in Toronto.
Abreu, who was acquired from the Astros in a trade earlier this week, was expected to make his season debut Saturday against the Blue Jays.
Instead, he will remain in the United States until the visa issue is resolved.
"We're still working through the process," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. "We're hoping to have him back as soon as possible."
Abreu, 26, hit .288 with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs in 113 games with the Astros last season.
He was expected to provide the Brewers with a much-needed boost in the outfield, which has been struggling this season.
Without Abreu, the Brewers will likely start Tyrone Taylor in right field and Christian Yelich in left field.
The Brewers are hoping to get Abreu back in the lineup as soon as possible, but there is no timetable for his return.
